Today was really long. Got up at 4am to get our flight at 6am to Pontianak. Maria and I saw 2 other white people in the boarding lounge so we went over and said '..are you other volunteers..?'. Haha. They were, thank god. A couple called Tim and Tracey.
On the flight from Pontianak to Pangkalan Bun, Maria and I didn't realise it had multiple stops. So we got off at the wrong stop, only realising when we saw Tim running off the plane after us going 'WE'RE NOT THERE YET!!!!!!!' We would've been screwed if he didn't..no other flights out that day! Once at PKB, we met all the other volunteers, had lunch (in a 'western' restaurant, hah), and wandered around town to buy wellies for the leeches and such.
We had our first injury today. On the FIRST DAY. Tim was walking on the pavement, observing some birds in a tree. This resulted in him failed to notice a large hole in the ground. You can guess what happened next. I remember dodging the hole thinking 'hmm I should really warn the others behind me about that..' Alas, I thought I'd look kinda dumb seeing as it was a VERY noticible hole. Tim got a large cut on his leg from this. Ouch..
